In a strongly worded condemnation of Russia on Monday for retaliating to a Georgian invasion of South Ossetia which began friday, US President George Bush said Russia’s invasion of Georgia and the threat to Georgia’s democratically elected government “is unacceptable in the 21st century” and has “substantially damaged Russia’s standing in the world.”

Putting all things aside for a moment and forgoing blame, I would like to point to the irony of Bush’s statement, particularly on his insistence that Russia was out to topple a DEMOCRATICALLY elected Georgian government.
